Let’s Get Lifting

The aim of my blog is to lift the weight off mental health and make it easier for people to talk about. I hope that by sharing my experiences it will give others the confidence to do so too. A few things have happened to me this week that have really blown me away.

At the start of the week a friend said to me “I hope one day I can be as confident as you to share how I feel”. We sat down and spoke about mental health and how we both deal with it.

Then a guy came up to me the gym one evening and spoke to me about my blog. He thanked me and told me how it opened his eyes to how someone with anxiety thinks. He said he read my No One is a Unicorn blog. That is right my blog got a man in the gym not only talking about a unicorn but also mental health. That is why I write my blog! I have never felt so proud of something I do.

Those are the conversations that need to happening regularly between everyone. If you are unsure on how to start a conversation about mental health do your research. Read;

  1. What is Depression?
  2. What is Anxiety?
  3. Who You Gonna Call?

Imagine, if we as a nation, spoke about mental health as much as we spoke about the weather. Everyone lifting the weight off talking about mental health together. We would make so much progress in breaking the stigma that surrounds mental health issues.

The fact that suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK is crazy! Get talking people and lift the weight off mental health! You might just save someone.

Over the past few weeks I have really struggled being positive and confident. However, after the conversations I have had this week reminded me how far I have come.

In the words of the Lighthouse Family;

When it all gets dark again
The whole thing falls apart I guess
It doesn’t really matter ’bout the rain
‘Cause we’ll get through it anyway
We’ll get up and start again

Never be afraid to start the conversation about mental health. Also don’t forget to like my Facebook page where I share other articles that can help with mental health.
